Dis/close (Distant but Close) Capstone

Website Design

Check out the website at dis-close.com

Our project explores our identities as three women of color coming from religious households. Through having conversations with one another on topics of race and ethnicity, religion and gender we were able to see how our identities and past experiences have played a central role in developing our sense of self.

In creating this space, we wanted to amplify our voices as women of color and for others to be able to resonate with our experiences and recognize they are not alone. For those who may not directly relate, we hope our conversations can serve as a learning opportunity to gain a better understanding of other cultures.

Final Reflection

We decided to feature our conversations on a live website to not only make them accessible, but also allow us to easily showcase more discussions in the future. Throughout our initial conversations, we found that there is still more to unpack and we have only begun to scratch the surface.

This project was a lot more thought-provoking and challenging than I had expected. Dis/close initially started off as a means for us to find similarities and differences between our experiences, and we ended up finding a sense of community with one another. For this to happen, we had to trust and be vulnerable with each other, which before these conversations, I was afraid to do with other people. My group is still meeting up weekly.
